Jared Christopher Pearce
(October 4, 1977 - August 14, 2009)

Jared C. Pearce, 31, passed away August 14, 2009. He was born October 4, 1977, in Evansville, Indiana, to Mike and Cindy Pearce.

Jared was a 2001 graduate of Kansas State University. He married Melanie Thoman in 2002. He taught science in the Hickman Mills school district before moving to Guthrie Oklahoma in 2006. He taught 8th grade science and coached football, wrestling and track at Guthrie Middle school. Jared was an Eagle Scout and a member of the Tribe of Mic-O-Say and the Order of the Arrow. He camped at H. Roe Bartle Scout Reservation for 21 years, serving on staff for 17 years. Jared was a Sagamore in the Tribe of Mic-O-Say and a brotherhood member of OA. He was Wood Badge trained and had served on National Camp School staff for 2 years.

 

Jared is preceded in death by his grandfather Bill Pearce.

 

His survived by his wife of 7 years, Melanie, his parents Mike and Cindy Pearce of Olathe, Kansas, brother Justin and wife Christine, Hillsborough, New Hampshire, sister Julie, Olathe, grandmother Blanche Pearce and grandparents Compton and Judy Heggy, Wichita, in-laws Andrea Jackson, Gene Leonard Bella Vista, AR and Gary and Vickie Thoman, Concordia, KS, 1 niece Christiana and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

 

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 19, 2009 at Community Church in Guthrie and at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 22, 2009 at Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Olathe, Kansas. Arrangements are under the direction of Smith-Gallo Funeral Home, Guthrie.

 

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Jared Pearce staff scholarship. Checks should be made out to Heart of America Council, Boy Scouts of America, 10210 Holmes Road, Kansas City, MO 64131 with Jared’s name in the memo line.

 

Head Coach Rafe Watkins released the following statement:

 

"Jared will be greatly missed by all. The coaches, players, students, and administration. All the kids loved him. He was a great, young football coach and more importantly he was a terrific young man."
