Clay Tarter

Coach Clay Tarter, who started the cross country program at Guthrie High School, was named the 2009 Oklahoman's Big All City Track Coach of the Year.

Senior Donte' Foster and Emmanuel Robinson were also named to the list.

The GHS Hall of Fame coach helped lead the Guthrie boys team to the program's first ever state championship this past spring by winning Class 5A. Tarter has guided five boys cross country teams ('82, '83, '84, '91, '94) and one Lady Jays team ('84) to state championships.

Tarter just finished his 32nd year of teaching and is now retired, but will continue to coach at GHS.

Robinson is just one of two sophomores to make the list. Robinson won the 110-meter hurdles title with a time of 15.08 and finished third in the 100 meters at 10.84.

Meanwhile, Foster continues his GHS story book career by being named to the list. Foster, who competed in just four events in his senior year, did not plan on joining the track team, but was talked into it by teammates.

In the process, he won his third straight high jump with a jump of 7 feet. Foster will have all stated in football, basketball, and track this season and will leave GHS as, if not the best, as one of the top athlete's in the school's history.

Foster just played in the Faith 7 basketball game, that features the top basketball players from Oklahoma against Texas, and helped team Oklahoma to victory by scoring 16 points. He will play in the Oil Bowl Saturday (June 13) and the Oklahoma Coaches Association All State basketball game on July 30th.

Foster is still undecided on his college and sport, but says walking on to play football at Oklahoma State is his top choice at the present time.
