A few years ago cross country head coach Clay Tarter talked about the group of
kids he had running was a good group, but young. Well, fast forward a few years
and now you got a top ranked team in the state headed to state this weekend.

| Senior Kolt
Rinehart and junior Zack Cates make the turn at O'Brian
Park. |
The Guthrie squad was sent to the East side of the state for the regional race
at O'Brian Park, in Tulsa, and the results were the same as they have been on
the West side of the state this season. Domination.
Guthrie ran away with the regional championship trophy by compiling a team low
28-points. Bishop Kelley, a traditional rich cross country program, was a
distant second place with a score of 63.
Tahlequah (90) finished third, Tulsa Memorial (149) came in at fourth place in
their first season in 5A, and Tulsa Edison (174) rounded out the top 5.
Once again, leading the flock of Jays was senior Jason Ogan and his second place
finish with a time of 17:14.09. Ogan's time was 7-seconds off the regional
winner Matt White (17:07.74) of Tulsa Kelley.
Jason's twin brother Jared Ogan was fourth with a time 17:35.52 and the twin's
younger brother, sophomore Jonathan Ogan finished (17:35.52) :06 later to
capture fifth overall.
Zack Cates and Hunter Sallee had top 10 finishes while Colin Bechan just missed
10th place by :04, but still finished strong.

| Senior Rachel Roberts is
surrounded by two Cardinal runners. |
Senior Kolt Rinehart, who joined the team prior to the start of the season,
continues to improve over the course of the season and his 17th place regional
showing proves it.
Guthrie saw a few of their late season races, including their conference race,
cancelled, but did not show any affects.
Meanwhile, the only Lady Jay running this season, Rachel Roberts, finished in
10th place with a time of 13:02.89. Jenny Dyer, of Collinsville, won the overall
race with a time of 12:10.45.
Roberts and the BlueJays will now shift their focus to the Cross Country State
Meet this Saturday. The race will be held at Mitch Park, in Edmond. That is the
same course that the BlueJays took third overall a season ago in the biggest
race of the season.
Roberts and the rest of the 5A girls will start at 12:00 p.m. and the 5A boys
will get started at 12:45. The Jays are going for their sixth state championship
in school history. The last time Guthrie won the team title was 1994 and a sixth
title would tie the most in GHS history with the boys basketball program.
