The Guthrie Junior High wrestling team was at Taft
Middle School last Tuesday and won the dual 40-30.
Taft took the early lead with a pin at 78 and a forfeit
at 86 pounds.
Guthrie's Ethan Selanders got a fall in 1:48, at 94, to
set the score at 12-6. Timothy O'Conner followed with a
fall in :54 at 102, and Austin O'Conner got the fall in
:51 at 110 to push the deficit to 18-12.
Guthrie had to forfeit 118 to give six points to Taft,
but Shane Cantrel, at 126, picked up the 15-7 major
decision to give Guthrie their first lead 22-18.
At 134, Elijah Prince picked up a hard fought 4-1
decision to increase the score 25-18.
Guthrie forfeited 142 to give Taft another six points to
push the score 25-24. Taft then got a quick fall at 152
to pull ahead 30-25.
Terry Blue at 165 got a pin in 1:50, followed by Brent
Berryhill's pin in 41 seconds, at 185, to make the score
37-30. Blake Finley picked up a tough 7-5 victory at
Heavyweight to make the final score 40-30.
Guthrie wrestles Piedmont this Thursday, at 3:30, for a
chance to take first in the North side of the Suburban
Conference for the second time in two years. They will
then compete in the Jr. High All-state tournament this
weekend at the State Fairgrounds arena in OKC.
