The Guthrie and Deer Creek wrestling dual had plenty of built up along with a
conference championship and perhaps a trip to Dual State on the line.
5th ranked Deer Creek escaped with a 33-29 over the Jays and locks up a trip to
state, but will compete against Northwest Classen next week.
For Guthrie, they must quickly turn around today and Saturday and compete in the
Carl Albert Tournament.
The dual was back and forth with the Jays leading 29-27 heading into the final
match, but a Deer Creek pin wrapped up a win over the rising Guthrie program on
the Antler's home mat.
Guthrie drops their first dual of the season and is 2-1 this season. To view the

Junior Jays pick up close win
Guthrie took the first lead of the night 6-0 when Nikki
Herbst ant 78 lbs pinned his opponent in :53. Deer Creek
tied the match at 6 all with a fall at 86.
Ethan Selanders got an 11-4 decision at 94, and Timothy
O'Conner won 4-0 in a very tough match to push the Guthrie
lead to 12-6.
Pete Plain took the forfeit at 110 for six points. Deer
Creek got four points at 118 to make the score 18-10.
At 126 Shane Cantrell won 6-3 to make the score 21-10.
Elijah Prince made the score 24-10 with a 13-11 decision at
134.
Guthrie had a forfeit at 142, then Andrew Toney picked up a
17-9 major decision at 152 to make the score 28-16.
Deer Creek picked up pins at 165 and 185 to tie the match at
28. Guthrie heavyweight Blake Finley got the win 5-3 to win
the dual 31-28.
It was an outstanding match for Guthrie who now faces
Western Heights Thursday for a home dual at 6:00.
