Guthrie's incoming sophomore Blake Belcher and freshmen Richard Brothers recently attended the Schuman's National Underclassmen Combine and walked away with high honors. NUC is the only nationwide combine specifically for freshman and sophomore football players.

The NUC, which was held at Tulsa Memorial, teams up with Rivals.com and Maxpreps.com and provides exposure for athlete's to get their name out there early in the recruiting process for all levels of college football.

Belcher, who will look to anchor the valuable left tackle spot for head coach Rafe Watkins and the BlueJays, was named the Overall Most Valuable Player for the offensive linemen.

"Blake was our Offensive lineman MVP for the 8th/9th grade combine session. He tested fairly well for a young lineman and for his size at 6'4" 240 lbs," a NUC spokesperson said in a returned email. "He was very dominant in the one on one drills and displayed great foot work, form, and technique in the individual period."

Brothers, who competed with 200 athlete's, was named Overall 8th grade Top Attendee and is the second highest award to be achieved. Richard is the younger brother of current BlueJay star Kentrell Brothers.

Both Belcher and Brothers have been invited to the Ultimate 100 camp which is comprised of the top

100 sophomores and freshmen  in the United States. 40% of the athletes that have attend the Ultimate 100 camp have received D-1 scholarship offers. The highest percentage of any program in the USA. The camp will be in Duncanville, TX.

Events at the NUC included the 40 yard dash, pro agility shuttle, bench press, broad jump, vertical jump, one on ones, and position skills. The group heard from Phil Clarke, a speaker for the National Collegiate Scouting Association. Clarke, played linebacker for Pittsburgh and played three seasons for the New Orleans Saints, talked about the do’s and dont's on the recruiting process.

Belcher, who was accompany by his mentor Zach Robbins (pictured above), will be leaned on for the next three seasons at left tackle for the BlueJays. Watkins said the offensive line will need to be able to sustain drives.

"We are going to try to be ball control and are going to have to drive it with 10-12 plays and that is fine," Watkins said.
