Fans meet and greet Bluejays
By: Chris Evans
The August, Oklahoma heat was not enough to keep a few hundred fans from rolling out to Jelsma Stadium on Saturday night to meet and greet the Bluejay football team, cheerleaders, and training staff. During the process, raised money toward the Bluejay Booster Club with a cookout.
Harrison Street was blocked off from traffic as the streets were littered with Bluejay fans eating and talking Bluejay football. Guthrie will begin their season when they travel to Shawnee on August 31st. As they do at every home game, the Booster Club was serving it up with the good stuff. On the menu was hamburgers, hot dogs, drinks, chips, but on this night they threw in some pork. All menu items were offered for a great deal of $5.
Fans would then make their way into Jelsma Stadium where the cheerleaders were first introduced by, the master of ceremonies, head coach Rafe Watkins. Watkins, who will begin his seventh season at the Bluejay skipper, then introduced his team, coaches, and training staff.
Watkins thanked the crowd for coming out and supporting the program and that he hoped to see them again next year for the 2nd annual meet and greet. Guthrie will open up the 2007 home season inside Jelsma Stadium on September 7th for the second game of the year when the Wildcats of Piedmont come to town.
