Chickasha, Okla. -- The two time defending 5A State champions will hit the playoff stretch on a three game winning streak after a 54-42 win over Chickasha Friday night inside the Chickasha Activity Center.

Despite trailing after the first quarter, Guthrie picked up their 16th win and will play Noble, Friday evening, at the GHS gymnasium with a tip time of 8:00.

Southeast and Northwest Classen will play the first game starting at 6:30. The two winners will play Saturday evening, 7:00, for the regional championship and both teams automatically qualify for the area tournament in the following week.

The Jays got a Devon Hall lay-up just two seconds into the game when Chaunsey Dumas, on the jump ball, tipped it toward the Jays goal.

Guthrie jumped out to a 6-2 start, but Chickasha in the next 1:50 would go on a 10-0 run to double up the Jays, 12-6, and ended the quarter with a 14-11 advantage.

Hall and Kentrell Brothers combined to score five points to begin the second quarter to take the lead back, but the Chicks regained the lead, 22-21, but freshmen JT McFadden drained a jump shot from the free throw line to send the Jays into the locker room with the lead, 24-22.

In the first 3:48 of the quarter, Guthrie was up 33-22, thanks to a 9-0 run. Each team scored eight points to finish out the third quarter.

BJ McDonald's fourth quarter bucket gave the Jays thier biggest lead of the night, 49-34, as Chickasha could not draw any closer then 9 points in the final quarter.
