Guthrie will look to contain state’s leading rusher

For the second week in a row, the Guthrie Bluejays will get to see one of the state’s most talented running backs.

The Bluejays will try and snap a two-game losing skid to the Irish with a 7 p.m. kickoff in Oklahoma City. The game can be heard on Hot 93.7 FM, online at Guthrie News Page, Guthrie Sports Page and the live video feed below (www.youtube.com/GuthrieNews).

Guthrie is coming off a 55-10 loss last week to Carl Albert and enter with a 1-3 overall record and a 0-1 5A-2 district record. For McGuinness, the 5A state runner-ups from a season ago, enter with a perfect 4-0 record with wins over Del City, Bishop Kelley, Enid and Woodward.

Friday will be just the second home game for the Irish and second road game for the Jays as we hit the midway point of the regular season.

McGuinness has won 16 of their last 18 games dating back to last season, where the Irish lost to Carl Albert in the 5A title game.

The Irish are highlighted on offense with running back Dominic Richardson. The sophomore, who transferred from Piedmont two seasons ago, leads the state with 995 yards on 94 carries to go with 11 touchdowns.

A season ago, Richardson ran for 748 yards on 110 carries and eight touchdowns.

McGuinness’ offensive line was anchored by senior Owen Condon, who has committed to play at Georgia, but has been ruled out for the season after suffering a knee injury earlier this year.

Back from injury a season ago is quarterback Brennan Mullins. The senior, who played in 11 games as a freshmen, is completing 50 percent of his passes (31-62) for 511 yards, four touchdowns and two interceptions.

On defense, head coach Justin Jones’ 3-4 defense will feature Morgan Lau, who piled up 96 tackles and six sacks last year. So far in his senior campaign he has collected 23.
