Guthrie stays unbeaten with 48-0 win in OKC

The Guthrie BlueJays scored three times each in the first and second quarters and the Jays defense proved once again to be dominant by holding the Southeast Spartans to just one first down in a 48-0 victory. Guthrie names Jon Chappell interim athletic director

The Guthrie Public Schools Board of Education approved the recommendation of Jon Chappell to serve as interim athletic director for the BlueJays. The recommendation came from Superintendent Dr. Mike Simpson during Monday’s regular Board of Education meeting.

For a few minutes on Friday night, the football state of Oklahoma did a double-take. Everyone was checking to see what they saw or heard was correct. Yes, Guymon held a two-point lead over the defending 5A state champs after one quarter of play.


Fab 4 go out winners in final home game

They are known as the Fab 4. The Fab 4 and a junior played an instrumental role for the Lady Jays softball team winning on Senior Night. Guthrie defeated NW Classen Monday evening and now shifts their focus to the post-season.

The Guthrie seventh grade football team could not overcome three turnovers and in the process dropped their first game of the season. For the eighth grade team, they continue to remain unbeaten in their two-year junior high careers.

Softball headed to Collinsville for regional play 

The Guthrie softball team is three wins away from a state tournament berth for the first time since 1997. If that were to happen, they will need to claim wins over Tulsa area teams on the state’s east side.

BancFirst hosted an event in Oklahoma City where 120 high school basketball players and 113 coaches from 46 BancFirst communities. Those attending from Guthrie were Sojo Love, L’liot Curry, Jack Hankins, and Tim Flanigan.

Guthrie’s Donte’ Foster lands on NFL practice squad 

The bad news for Guthrie’s Donte’ Foster was that he did not survive the final roster cut for the Minnesota Vikings. However, the good news is the Vikings were not wanting to separate their ways completely by signing the stand-out wide receiver to the team’s practice squad.

Guthrie YMCA Golf Camp

The Guthrie YMCA Golf Camp concluded last night. Coaches Michael and Kristen Michael Merritt helped put the camp together and is hoping to bring the camp back in the spring and fall.


Football camp a success for young athletes 

GHS Football coach Kelly Beeby was pleased to see about 100 campers attend the two-day BlueJay Football Youth Camp. Campers worked on both offensive and defensive skills with coaching staffs from the high school and junior high. Kelly Beeby promoted to head coach for the BlueJays 
It did not take long for Guthrie to find their next head football coach. The Board of Education selected Kelly Beeby to take over the high-power program. He met with his team for the first time as head coach on Tuesday. Still more to come.

Missouri holds off Cowboys in Cotton Bowl, 41-31 
DALLAS – The Oklahoma State offense struggled through the first three quarters in the AT&T Cotton Bowl Friday evening, but began to figure out the Missouri defense in the fourth quarter. However, it was too late as the Tigers clinched the game in the final minute. Read more…
